Cisse completes Marseille move from Liverpool

Djibril Cisse has signed a five-year contract with Marseille after leaving Liverpool.

The 25-year-old spent last season on loan with the French club and last week the Merseysiders gave the green light for the move to become permanent.

A statement on the Marseille website read: "Djibril Cisse has signed a five-year contract with Marseille."

Marseille president Pape Diouf told the website: "I am happy because the Djibril Cisse affair had become a soap opera.

"We knew it would be difficult from the start. Djibril was behind us and said very early he wanted to continue with Marseille."

Cisse was born in nearby Arles.

"We wanted to keep him," said Diouf. "I understand why Liverpool wanted to defend their financial interests.

"That made things drag on but we finally got there."
