Chelsea striker Giroud: I have to meet Marina

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud admits he is seriously considering his future as his contract winds down.

Giroud, who is the top scorer in the Europa League, is out of contract at the end of the season, although Chelsea have an option to extend it for another 12 months.

When asked if he will still be at Chelsea next term, Giroud said: “I don't know. I have no clue about that now. I have to meet Marina (Granovskaia – Chelsea director). They must talk to me before the end of the season.

“Obviously I'm happy to be here. The thing is I just want to enjoy. It's not because I'm 32 and I've won the World Cup, because I don't want to retire. I'm not satisfied with second place.

“I'm very frustrated when I'm not on the pitch, but I just don't want to show it. When you are a competitor, when you've been through difficulties all through your career, you need to keep that frustration inside you and transform it into positive energy on the pitch.

“Trust me, though, I'm not happy to play the second role. That's why I said, next year, I will need to have a more important role to play in the team."
