Chelsea are interested in Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez.

The Athletic says Chelsea are interested in signing the Uruguayan international to bolster Thomas Tuchel's squad in the summer.

The report states that the Blues are looking to sign an imposing centre-back who can lead and dominate the backline and Gimenez is reportedly viewed as a player that fits that criteria.

The 25-year-old has previously expressed his desire to play for Chelsea in interviews and also once liked a Twitter post linking him with a move to Stamford Bridge.

The Uruguayan's contract runs out in 2023. He is a versatile player that can also play as a right-back or a holding midfielder.

Gimenez is also reportedly seen as a long-term replacement for Thiago Silva.
