Chelsea plan to fund a bid for Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski in January by selling Demba Ba. The Daily Express says reports suggest that Chelsea are willing to part with Ba, as they plan an audacious bid to beat Bayern Munich to Lewandowski.
Doubts about Lewandowski's proposed free transfer to Bayern at the end of the season have arisen recently, and Chelsea hope to capitalise by making Dortmund an offer they can't refuse for the Polish striker in January.
Getting Ba off the Stamford Bridge books will be key to that move, and although Chelsea would remain reluctant to sell to a rival in Arsenal, both West Ham and Spanish side Valencia would happily take the 28-year-old on board.
It is thought that a £7m bid would be enough for Jose Mourinho to let Ba leave on a permanent basis.
