Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho admitted he needed to give Fernando Torres the chance to rediscover his passion for football.
The Blues have sent the Spanish striker to AC Milan on a two-year loan and Mourinho has made it clear that he had to move the former £50million signing on in order for him to get the most out of his career.
"About Fernando I have to say, with the respect that I bring to all my former players, that as a professional and as a person there is no discussion," said Mourinho.
"He's an outstanding guy and professional. We will manage without him, myself and the team, but he needed the change.
"Now he will go to Milan and his passion for football will motivate him."
