Chelsea on verge of securing Roma star Nainggolan to long-term deal

Chelsea are believed to be on the brink of landing their first signing of the Antonio Conte era.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the Blues are pushing on with their interest in Radja Nainggolan and are expected to soon sign him for a reported fee of £31million.

The AS Roma midfielder has been linked with Chelsea for some time now but it is felt that the West London outfit are much closer to securing the deal than they previously have been, especially since Italy boss Conte was appointed as manager.

Roma are well aware the 27-year-old is a target for a number of clubs in Europe but director of football Walter Sabatini stopped short of suggesting a shift to Stamford Bridge was on the brink.

"I don't know, I've never spoken to Conte," said Sabatini.

"Nainggolan is a universal midfielder, so strong in every area of the game that he is wanted by many clubs."

However, it is understood that Nainggolan has agreed a five-year deal following negotiations with the Blues over the past few days and will leave the Italian capital for London with Roma's best wishes having spent the past two-and-a-half years with the club.
