Chelsea legend Frank Lampard says his 'Golden Generation' was "nonsense".

Lampard and his peers were tipped for great things with England, but won nothing.

Wayne Rooney, David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Michael Owen and Paul Scholes all joined Lampard in the Three Lions team.

"The 'Golden Generation' tag was nonsense anyway – no one proclaimed us as a Golden Generation, there's some good players in that squad but so did Italy and France, who had Andrea Pirlo and Zinedine Zidane," Lampard told the Stick to Football podcast with SkyBet.

"International football is always a challenge to win, and that's an old story now."
