Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer was thrilled to make his Champions League debut last night - at age 41.
Schwarzer kept a cleansheet i n the 1-0 win over Steaua Bucharest.
"That was huge," beamed Schwarzer. "My wife always says I'm unemotional. I'm very German, she says, in that respect but I was elated, after the game especially. The manager had faith in me and trusted me and gave me this opportunity to fulfil a lifetime's ambition to play at the highest level, in the Champions League.
"I realised a couple of years ago that you can never say never and that you can keep hoping and that things will maybe swing your way. You've just got to keep doing the right things and working hard towards it."
