Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah praised Bashir Humphreys after yesterday's 1-1 draw with Newcastle.

Humphreys played alongside Chalobah for Chelsea's latest preseason game in the US.

"It is another step and experience for Bash which he coped with very well," Chalobah told chelseafc.com. "I try to help him a lot with my experience of playing in his position the past two years. I have been trying to make him feel comfortable and ready to play.

"Communication is key. Trying to be positive no matter the situation. Like if he does a mistake, I think it is good for the young players to hear someone being positive next to them, and that's what I did.

"At the end of the day, we're on the same team and doing the same job."

Reece James started the game as captain and Chalobah also said: "Being captain is a massive thing for Chelsea. Reece has his desires and hopefully he does get it. He constantly shows his qualities on the pitch, and he is a leader."
