Chelsea captain Azpilicueta: We can't write off season

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta is not giving up on the club's season as yet.

The Blue are struggling in the Premier League, sitting in 9th place and ten points away from the top four positions.

However, Azpi is aware they are still in the Champions League, which means a trophy is still possible out of this campaign.

Speaking to The Athletic, Azpilicueta said: “But I won't rule out this season. At the moment we are not where we want to be. We are out of two cups, but we still have the two biggest ones — the Premier League and the Champions League.

“No one expected us to win the Champions League in 2021. In the Premier League, we have to have a very strong second half of the season to reach the top four, but it's in our hands. I refuse to give up on that.

“Am I stressing this to my team-mates? Yes, yes! I understand it's difficult to be positive in moments like this, but I will never allow us to just give it away, like we don't have a chance. We can do it.

“We have players coming back from injury. We have new signings. The ambition from the new ownership is very clear. We are not where we want to be, but we will work to get it back.

“We have to make it a success."
