Chelsea boss Lampard counting on 5-man backroom team

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard will go into the new season with a five-man backroom team.

With Lampard in the Chelsea dugout will be Jody Morris, who formed one-half of the duo's successful partnership at Derby last season.

Morris has taken up the role of assistant head coach at the club where he made 173 appearances between 1996 and 2003.

Former midfielder Eddie Newton returns to the role of assistant coach at Stamford Bridge.

Newton previously worked in the position alongside Guus Hiddink and Roberto Di Matteo during the Champions League-winning season of 2011/12.

Lampard will have another assistant coach in the form of Joe Edwards who has been promoted to the men's senior setup.

Edwards, who was development squad coach, has been part of the Academy coaching staff since 2004, winning the FA Youth Cup in 2015 and 2016.

Chris Jones also returns in an assistant coach role.

Hilario completes Lampard's backroom staff in the role of goalkeeper coach.

The former Portugal international made 39 Chelsea appearances before hanging up his gloves in 2014 and returning as a coach two years later.
