Chelsea are ready to use Levi Colwill as a trump card in the race to sign Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.
The Ecuador is a target for Arsenal, which are willing to go to £75m to sign him.
However, the Guardian says they face competition from Chelsea, which can use Colwill to sweeten the deal.
After this season's loan, Chelsea could offer to send Colwill back to Falmer stadium to help swing the transfer battle in their favour.
However, Caicedo's opinion will be a factor, with the midfielder said to be eager to sign for the Gunners.
