Chelsea are already seeking a new loan arrangement for Charly Musonda.
Musonda joined Celtic in January on an 18 month deal, but has struggled for action under manager Brendan Rodgers.
ESPN says Chelsea will now cut short the loan and bring Musonda back for preseason this summer.
And the Belgian will then be released for a new loan in an effort to get his career development back on track.
Rodgers said last week: “He's probably not played as much as he would have liked, but there are obviously reasons for that.
“I'll always bring players to develop them and, in the main, it's normally what happens when they are in my environment.
“At times, there are things off the pitch that people won't understand.
“It's difficult for players when they move to different cities and areas, that settlement. Everything can be tough."
