Cassio wins Adelaide United Club Champion award

Brazilian defender Cassio has edged out other sterling individual seasons from a number of his team mates to snare his second Adelaide United Club Champion Award at the Reds' end of season Awards Night. Cassio backed up his Club Champion win in 2007/08 to join goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic as the only players to have claimed the honour twice.

The top honour was expected to be a battle between three, with Cassio, Argentinean playmaker Marcos Flores and Hyundai A-League Golden Boot winner Sergio van Dijk the favourites. But it was the smiling Brazilian pocket rocket who captured the prestigious award,Cassio delighted and humbled to be named Adelaide United's Club Champion for 2010/11.

Unlike 2007/08 when he was Club Champion in what was his inaugural season in the Hyundai A-League, Cassio was one of the Reds' more experienced campaigners in 2010/11 as he helped United finished third at the end of the minor round.

Cassio host of outstanding performances in his 30 appearances this season also earned him the accolade of The Advertiser Channel Seven Golden Boots Player of the Year.

Flores and van Dijk also did not go away empty handed. The Argentine, who was voted the 2010/11 Johnny Warren Medallist as the best player in season six of the Hyundai A-League, took out the highly regarded Adelaide United Player's Player Award, while vanDijk took home The Advertiser Channel Seven News Leading Goal Scorer.

Midfielder Adam Hughes was named Best Team Man, while left sided winger Iain Ramsay followed a line of exceptional young talent to have represented the Reds and taken out the club's Rising Star Award.

Promising defender Allan Welsh was named the Most Valuable Player for the Reds' National Youth League Team, while American import Ashleigh Gunning took out the Adelaide United Women's Team MVP.
