Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon says the club still hasn't recovered from the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo a year ago.
Calderon was reacting to the 7-3 thrashing by Atletico Madrid last weekend.
Speaking of Ronaldo's departure to Juventus, Calderon stated: "The importance of players like Ronaldo, it's not just the goals they score and the way they perform. It's also the force they transmit to the teammates.
"That's why Real Madrid is now suffering so much from the president's historical mistake when he decided to get rid of him."
He continued: "Cristiano Ronaldo was so important for Real Madrid that he could cover all the structural failures of the club, including having a construction engineer as a football director, a coach who came from a club of third level and no game plan."
