Burnley midfielder Cullen: We didn't show enough fight for Brentford defeat

Burnley midfielder Josh Cullen felt they let themselves down at Brentford.

The Clarets were thumped 3-0 in London on Saturday.

Cullen told the club's website: "Obviously, it was hugely disappointing. The first half especially was really disappointing, I don't think we did the basics well enough especially in the first half and when you don't do the basics in any game of football, you're going to struggle to stamp your authority on the game. That's what we did first half.

“We were still in the game though, went in 1-0 down obviously and I feel like we started the second half much better, on the front foot, but yeah in key moments at the minute we haven't been quite good enough. We need to learn fast, but we need to stick together as a group and go again next week.

“I think the start of the second start we definitely looked like the most likely team, that's what it felt like on the pitch. It felt like we did the basics better which then allowed us to show what we can do on the ball and in possession and start playing our game.

"I think that's the main message for us to takeaway from today is that we're nothing without the basics and the fight we need to show as a team, and we can't accept that from what happened in the first half. So, yes, we've just got to go again."
