The brother and agent of Real Madrid defender Toni Rudiger admits his relationship with Carlo Ancelotti was a key factor in this summer's transfer.
Rudiger left Chelsea for Real Madrid in a Bosman transfer last month.
The defender's brother, Sahr Senesie, also acts as his agent and he told AS: “It was difficult, there were twists and turns. But they also had something to do with the sporting results, for example the clubs did not see the need to strengthen themselves after the successes in the knockout stages of the Champions League. This has nothing to do with the player himself. But the other way around, poor results sometimes also encourage activism and new perspectives. It wasn't the case at Madrid either, the club thought: 'You won't have this quality again on a free transfer'.
“The contact was direct with Madrid, not with him (Florentino Perez), but with the management. It was not complicated because we had been in contact with the club since 2016. Already in 2019 the interest became more concrete, before the ban on transferring to Chelsea arrived and Toni did not want to force a transfer out of respect for those responsible for Chelsea. Chelsea couldn't have signed a replacement for him back then.
"I have been in close contact with Carlo since 2018, from Naples. Carlo explained how he imagines everything to be sporty. Toni liked that. It was a very harmonious conversation and further strengthened the good feeling of him."
