Brentford attacker Janelt: I always fancied we'd find Crystal Palace goal

Brentford attacker Vitaly Janelt was delighted to score in their 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace.

The German's header, which turned out to be the last action of the game, saw the Bees draw 1-1 with Crystal Palace at the Gtech Community Stadium.

“I saw six minutes on the board and I thought that was a long time," said Janelt to the Bees website.

“Ethan [Pinnock] played it to Bryan [Mbeumo], and I knew I had to get into the box, whether I was centre-back or not.

“The ball was perfect. I saw Ivan behind me but I had jumped already. Ivan said something and I was a bit in doubt to be honest, because Ivan is our top scorer and maybe it was a better chance for him to score!

“But I knew I just had to take it because it was unbelievable timing and, in the end, it was a great header."

When asked about his celebrations in front of the Bees fans, he added: “Amazing. Sometimes you can't describe how good that feeling is.

“A late goal always feels like a win, but it's just a point. It wasn't the best day for us, in general, but, even if it's not the best day, I think it's always possible to get a point."

Janelt came on with 15 minutes to go on Saturday afternoon and the versatile midfielder was ready to make an impact - just as he did during the reverse fixture at Selhurst Park.

On what Thomas Frank told him before he came on, he said: “He asked me to just try and drive the team. Obviously it was quite offensive with Keane [Lewis-Potter] and Bryan on the wing, but we've done it a few times this year when we've conceded the first goal.

"I think I played the pass for Wissa in the away game against Palace - Thomas didn't say do the same, but obviously I tried to and, today, I scored."

He added: “I was a centre-back today, but the most threat is when the 8s get into the box because it's hard to defend, they just think the strikers or the wingers will be there.

“But when the 8s are in there, I think it's so difficult to defend. As I said, it was an unbelievable cross and a good header."
