Blackburn Rovers are in advanced talks to sign Liverpool midfielder Leighton Clarkson.

The Liverpool Echo says a number of clubs have courted Clarkson with the Reds ready to release the 19-year-old on a temporary basis to continue his development.

And the Clitheroe-born teenager is now poised to spend the campaign at Blackburn, the club he has supported since childhood.

Harvey Elliott prospered on loan at Ewood Park last season and Liverpool were impressed with the manner in which Blackburn worked with and helped progress the youngster.

Clarkson has made three appearances for the Reds' first team, making his debut as a substitute in the League Cup quarter-final against Aston Villa in December 2019.
