Birmingham fullback Vignal admits Lens exit had to happen

Birmingham City fullback Gregory Vignal admits he had quit Lens last season.

During his final season in France when the RC Lens support turned against him he wasn't seen on match day at the Stade Felix Bollaert.

For the last few weeks of 2008-09, Vignal was only selected for away games because the stick had become so bad.

"No, I didn't play in home games," he confirmed to the Birmingham Mail. "I think somebody made something behind my back and pushed the fans against me.

"But that's beyond me and I'm glad to be at this club and play for Alex McLeish. When you have the confidence of your manager, you give more on the pitch.

"In France I knew something was wrong. I don't care, they can say what they want. I was strong all the year, it was tough for me, but it made me strong in the mind.

"Now I am back in England, I want to stay here many years and finish my career here because this is my kind of football."
