Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has revealed his role in Anthony Martial's move from AS Monaco.

Before United signed him in 2015, the club's head scout called Berbatov ahead of the transfer to get his thoughts on the young Frenchman.

"I had a wonderful time at Monaco," said Berbatov to talkSPORT. "I go there, Claudio Ranieri was the coach, and the team they had... Anthony Martial, James Rodriguez, Fabinho, Ricardo Carvalho, Radamel Falcao, Danijel Subasic.

"In the first training session, I'm 33, they start flying around me!

"The United head scout called me, he was like: 'Berbs, we are looking at this kid Martial and wanted to ask what you think'.

"I told him this boy is unbelievable, the things he can do. He can be a great player, he just needs someone to guide him on the pitch.

"Of course, I'm still waiting for my commission!"
