Christian Benteke has been ruled out of Liverpool's midweek League Cup tie against Bournemouth.

Benteke complained of discomfort in his knee and is unlikely to feature as boss Jurgen Klopp looks to ensure his striker's fitness for his side's weekends match against Chelsea.

Benteke scored last weekend for the Anfield side but some on Merseyside are worrying that this could be the start of another long term injury for the Belgium striker.

Benteke only returned to action last week and will be watched carefully by the club's medical team in order to determine his availability for the weekend.
