Beijing Guoan holds Nagoya Grampus to draw

Beijing Guoan have bowed out of the Asian Champions League but held Nagoya Grampus to a draw in their final group match.

The Chinese club managed a late equaliser to grab a point against Group E leaders Nagoya with a spirited performance in front of home fans at the Beijing Workers Stadium.

Oribe Niikawa put the visitors ahead in the 35th minute when he fired home and it seemed Nagoya would leave China with a fourth win from six matches in the competition.

But Beijing hit back nine minutes from time through Guo Hui who collected the ball in the box and turned to shoot past goalkeeper Koji Nashimura.

In the 90th minute, Beijing defender Zheng Lang received his second caution and was sent form the pitch but it had no ebaring on the outcome.

The point enabled Nagoya to finish two points clear of Newcastle Jets who defeated Ulsan Hyundai to progress to the next phase whilst Beijing remained rooted to the bottom of the table with five points from their six group matches.
