Beckham urges Depay: Man Utd No.7 shirt should not be considered a burden

Old Trafford legend David Beckham does not feel Memphis Depay should be burdened by the Number 7 jersey at Manchester United.

The No. 7 shirt holds a lot of prestige as legends such as George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo have all donned the famous number over the years.

Currently the number 7 jersey sits with Depay and the youngster has not been able to live up to his predecessors. Nonetheless, former United great Beckham believes that the number should not come with any pressure.

Beckham said: "It always was an inspiration for me. I never regarded it with any intimidation. I saw it was an honour.

"It was never my shirt. It was George Best's, Bryan Robson's, Eric Cantona's.

"The only reason I wanted to wear the No 7 shirt was because of those players. No 7 is a special shirt for Manchester United. It always has been and it always will be. But personally I don't think that it comes with any pressure."
