Barnes warns Man Utd against McTominay sale

Liverpool legend John Barnes says Manchester United are unlikely to sell Scott McTominay.

The Scotland midfielder is in demand as the summer transfer window fast approaches.

McTominay has been linked to Premier League rivals Newcastle United, with Eddie Howe said to be an admirer.

But on the back of his impressive goal scoring during the international break, Barnes believes that United will want to hold onto the all-action star.

Speaking to futfanatico.com, Barnes said: “He's a good, strong central defensive midfielder. He's young and British so he has an understanding of the Premier League."

“It's [a McTominay exit] obviously speculation and I don't see why Erik ten Hag would want to move McTominay on as he's young and British.

“He's a great addition for the Manchester United squad so I would be surprised by that."
