Barcelona stars Messi and Neymar set for Melbourne clash

Two of world football's biggest names will do battle in Australia's iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground this year.

Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Neymar are set to go head-to-head when Argentina take on Brazil at the MCG in June in the Chevrolet Brasil Global Tour, proudly presented by TEG and TLA Worldwide.

The South American giants will both bring their best available players to Melbourne for the June 9 clash which is set to feature such names as Dani Alves, Filipe Luís, Fernandinho, Philippe Coutinho, Willian, Sergio Aguero, Javier Mascherano, Sergio Romero, Angel Di Maria, Pablo Zabaleta and Gonzalo Higuain.

The match will take place ahead of both Brazil and Argentina's crucial 2018 World Cup qualifiers in August, September and October.

"There is 100 years of rivalry between Argentina and Brazil. These matches are always special," said Argentina manager Edgardo Bauza.

"We look forward to meeting in Melbourne. Our priority is to prepare for the important World Cup qualifiers coming up in 2017 and this match and the camp will be extremely valuable."

Mlbourne's Minister for Tourism and Major Events, John Eren, added: "There's no bigger occasion in football than when Brazil take on Argentina, and it's coming to Melbourne.

"The biggest and best events attract visitors in their thousands. They're here keeping our bars, restaurants and hotels busy, and that means jobs for Victorians."
