Barcelona president Laporta retains hope of Dembele penning new deal

Barcelona president Joan Laporta says the club still hopes Ousmane Dembele signs a new contract.

The 24-year-old was initially kept out of contention during the latter part of the January transfer window, but after failing to secure a move away, Xavi Hernandez has turned to him in recent weeks and he has responded with some very impressive performances.

"Dembele knows our offer and that we have always wanted him to stay. We hope that at the end of the season he will reconsider it," Laporta said at the Mobile World Congress this Monday, as reported by Cadena SER.

Pedri is another player who has been in great form in the last few games, and Laporta believes he can go right to the top.

"He is destined to be one of the best players in the world, if not the best, but he knows that he has to work hard," he commented.

Happy with Xavi

Barcelona have managed to score four goals in each of their last three games - away at Valencia and Napoli, as well as home against Athletic Club - and Laporta is delighted with the job Xavi is doing as head coach.

"This is the way to success," Laporta wrote on Instagram in Catalan, Spanish and English, accompanied by a photo of himself and Xavi.
