Athletic Bilbao have joined the battle for Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera.

Herrera, 29, is out of contract at Old Trafford this summer.

Herrera's former club are keeping tabs on a number of former players however, including he, Spurs striker Fernando Llorente and Bayern Munich's Javi Martinez.

Athletic president Aitor Elezegi told AS that the door is open for the trio - but requests that all must show a willingness to return to San Mames.

"Any of those three could play in the team," declared Elezegi "Athletic has the ability to go through with these type of transfers.

"I hope Javi, Herrera or Llorente would like to make the effort, which would be a generous one."
