Ashley Young: Man Utd biggest club in the world

Ashley Young insists Manchester United are the "biggest club in the world".

The veteran penned a new one-year deal on Monday.

The Old Trafford captain has revealed Sir Alex Ferguson told him it was an honour and responsibility to wear the United shirt when he joined the club in 2009.

“It is the 'United Way," said Young. “You are at the biggest club in the world so you have to be irreproachable on and off the field."

According to latest figures, Real Madrid have become the world's richest club after winning the last three Champions Leagues while Liverpool have won Europe's most prestigious club competition five times.

But Young insisted: “But there are other criteria to take into account. For example, the popularity of Manchester United is just completely crazy.

"Every time we go on a pre-season tour, either in Asia or the United States, all the training sessions open to the public are packed out and there are fans around our hotel at all hours of the night and day.

"And it is the same when I go on holiday: no matter where you go in the world, you are going to come across a Manchester United fan."
