Arsenal receive advantage over Newcastle as David makes Lille transfer demand

Arsenal and Newcastle United have received a huge boost in their pursuit of Jonathan David.

The Canadian striker, who is lighting up Ligue 1 this season, wants to move from French side Lille.

The 22-year-old wants to leave in the summer, even though he has a contract until 2025.

That is according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.

Plettenberg states that David wants a move to a club in the Champions League, which would make matters complicated for Newcastle.

It could be an advantage for Arsenal as they remain genuine contenders for a top-four spot.

Mikel Arteta's side are two points behind fourth-placed Manchester United and possess three games in hand on the Red Devils.

Lille reportedly want at least between £37million and £46million to part ways with David.

Arteta is desperately trying to land a striker this summer as Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are set to walk away on free transfers.

The Gunners allowed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to join Barcelona last month.
