Arsenal closing on deal for Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng

Arsenal are closing on a deal for Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng.

Arsenal are in the market for a new centre back following Calum Chambers' season-ending injury, with RB Leipzig's Dayot Upamecano one potential suitor.

Boateng is seen as a cheaper alternative as Mikel Arteta finds his feet at the club, though, and Sky Deutschland report that talks have begun over a potential move for the 31-year-old.

The Germany international is no stranger to the Premier League having spent a year at Manchester City before his move back to Germany in 2011.

Boateng has found himself down the pecking order under new boss Hansi Flick in recent weeks and talks have been held about a move away this month/
