Arsenal are refusing to match Southampton's asking price for Morgan Schneiderlin.

The Mail on Sunday says Arsenal are baulking at the £25million Southampton are demanding for Schneiderlin and are considering alternatives, having been given confidence in their midfield strength by the rise of Francis Coquelin.

Manager Arsene Wenger has already indicated he feels the squad does not need major additions this summer, although Arsenal are expected to approach Chelsea about a move for Petr Cech later this month.

Arsenal are not convinced about spending big money on outfield additions, even though fans will want to see major signings arrive to challenge for the Premier League title.
