Arsenal boss Arteta satisfied with 'tough' PSV draw

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was satisfied after their 1-1 draw with Champions League opponents PSV.

The Gunners had already qualified first from their group, as PSV had as runners up before the game.

Arteta said: "A tough match. We made eight changes. There were good moments and moments where we lacked that cohesion, especially in the timing and the way we pressed against a really good side. When you don't get the timing right you have to defend open spaces. We had to do that a few times tonight and it nearly cost us the game. We had some very good moments as well. I'm really happy with the attitude of each player and how they tried. In the end we could have won it with the chance of Leo and with the goal that was disallowed.

On PSV, he said: "Very good because they win every single game. I only have words of pride for the way they play, for the coach. Let's see what they can keep doing. On Monday we have the draw. They finished second, we finished first so let's see what happens.

"Credit to them for the way they play as I said. The cohesion and timing, especially when the ball was really far from our goal, we were very clear and gave them some time and they made the spaces.

"It is true that we miskicked the ball twice and they were on goal, which was pretty unusual for us to do. We had to adapt and put our head back and run backwards. And we did that. At the end it could have been a different result."

On leaving Ethan Nwaneri, Louis Sousa and Reuell Walters on the bench, he added: "I don't think it was the right context. Making eight changes already, to throw them in there against a team that hasn't lost at home in nearly two years, I didn't think it was the right moment. I wanted to see how the game developed, but it was too much I think for them and as well we had three little issues, and we had to play the subs, and we had no room because we really wanted to play Emile as well."
