Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar has admitted that he turned down a move to Liverpool.

The 20-year-old was linked with a move to the Reds two years ago.

But he has claimed that he did not want to leave his boyhood club.

"I opted for Lyon because it is the club of my heart and my aim was to succeed here, in my city," he said to Planete Lyon about a possible Liverpool move in 2016.

Aouar has impressed at the French giants, scoring six goals and providing an assist in 16 Ligue 1 starts.

He can play in central midfield or on the left flank.
