Al-Ettifaq coach Gerrard makes plea to fans after defeating DC United

Al-Ettifaq coach Steven Gerrard is upbeat about the team as the Saudi Pro League resumes.

The Liverpool great was speaking after a friendly win against DC United.

Gerrard said, "The lads have been working extremely hard, they've been focused, they understand the position that we're in - we want to fix that and move up the table.

"Everyone is extremely ready, we've added (Toto) Ekambi in the last couple of days so we need to get him up to speed and ready, we're looking forward to welcoming Seko Fofana who will come in and make us stronger. We're in a good place, we need to keep the boys focused and ready for Thursday night."

He added: "We've tried to look for certain upgrades that are going to be ready to contribute, to push foreign players for starting spots. The squad, in my opinion, is looking stronger and healthier than it did before."

Gini Wijnaldum and Moussa Dembele scored in the 2-0 win against DC United.

Gerrard added: "The fans turned out tonight and made some noise, we're really thankful for that support. Hopefully they'll come and support us on Thursday night, coming to support the team. We certainly need them, if we're going to be successful moving forward, we need our supporters."
