AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni says their move for Ralf Rangnick is the responsibility of chief exec Ivan Gazidis.
Gazidis has been chasing a deal for Red Bull's football director.
Asked for an update, Scaroni told Radio Rai: "I don't know if he will arrive, we have faith in (Stefano) Pioli.
"Gazidis will take care of these things, I don't know who he is talking to but the choices are made by him.
"I only say that we have confidence in both Pioli and (Paolo) Maldini."
He added: "We made a great effort to cut costs, our CEO has dedicated himself to this since the players were too expensive. We will continue in this effort: young players with reasonable costs, in respect to the FFP which has already given us a hit. We must have medium and long-term goals, the recovery of Milan cannot be immediate."
