Mendes isn't Gattuso's agent but they're good friends and the Milan coach wanted to test the waters about interest across Europe.
Mendes raised the prospect of a move to England and Newcastle for the former Rangers star, something Gattuso would be open to should things turn sour at Milan in the closing weeks of the season.
