AC Milan coach Pippo Inzaghi branded Philippe Mexes' behaviour as "terrible" after defeat to Lazio.
Mexes saw red for retaliating to a foul from Stefano Mauri, but after the dismissal went back for more and put his opponent in a chokehold while teammates tried to drag him away.
Inzaghi remarked: "Philippe apologised.
"He was provoked and it's a shame as he will be suspended, but he was the first to apologise and recognise it was a terrible gesture."
