weekend.
The FSV Mainz striker netted his 14th goal of the season in their 2-0 home victory over FC Nurnberg to surpass Shinji Kagawa's record of 13 which was set whilst playing for Borussia Dortmund in 2011/12, prior to his move to Manchester United.
Okazaki was on hand to head home on the half-hour mark before Christoph Moritz added a second for die Nullfunfer just before half-time.
The victory allowed Mainz to remain seventh on the Bundesliga table to go within five points of fourth-placed Bayer Leverkusen.
Okazaki's 14th tally of the campaign, in his 31st appearance since joining from VfB Stuttgart in the summer, sees him move four goals clear of his entire league scoring record at Stuttgart (10 goals) in two-and-a-half seasons.
Okazaki is currently equal with former FC Cologne, Hertha Berlin and Werder Bremen striker Yasuhiko Okudera on 14 away goals in Germany's top flight and has his own record of 10 away goals in a single season - four more than Naohira Takahara who achieved the feat of six with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2006/07.
The former Shimizu S-Pulse man, who has netted 24 times in Germany, is also just two goals behind Okudera's Bundesliga record of 26 goals scored by a Japanese player.
For breaking stories and all the great banter like us on Facebook: <a
