They have signed former Aston Villa youngster Clark on a three-year deal.

He spent last season at Port Vale on loan and rejected Sunderland interest to link up with Leicester Under 23s.

Dyche praised his players after a tough week on the training ground ended with two more valuable run-outs at Port Vale and Crewe.

The Clarets split into two camps for their trips south, with one team coming from behind to win 3-1 at Vale Park while Crewe beat the Clarets 1-0 at Gresty Road.

And Dyche feels the fast-track approach will benefit his squad as pre-season intensifies ahead of the Premier League season.

He said: The idea of two games together is something we've enjoyed in the past few years.

Three or four seasons ago we got to the final pre-season game and felt there were players who still hadn't locked in the minutes they need.

So in the past couple of seasons we've had these games and got the minutes in early. Today was a really good day for my group and I'll find out more about the other group at Crewe when I speak to my staff, but the players have done well and credit to Port Vale in the first half.

They were really on the front foot, which is what we want. They looked fit and strong and delivered a good performance."

The Huddersfield Examiner reports the relegated side have beaten Liverpool and Southampton to his signature.

Luke decided on Huddersfield because he felt they were the best team for his development as a pro footballer," Daley's father, Terry, told the Warrington Guardian.

Luke's always had interest from clubs but he was happy where he was at Port Vale. When he was around 11 to 12 he went to Everton for four months and then decided he didn't want to sign for them, that he wanted to go back to what he called 'his team Port Vale'.

It's his job now, he will be getting paid from July 1st. He just has to continue to work hard."

Manchester United hero Scholes stunned League Two Oldham by quitting as boss earlier this month after just 31 days.

The Latics now have Pete Wild back in caretaker charge until the end of the season ahead of Saturday's home game with Grimsby.

But the Mirror says Oldham are considering a summer move for Port Vale's former Macclesfield boss Askey.

Askey, 54, has impressed at League Two strugglers Vale after taking charge in February on a contract until the end of the season.

Vale have lost just once in five games to boost their hopes of beating the drop.

Birmingham parted company with former Tottenham and West Ham boss Redknapp after slumping to a 3-1 defeat at home to Preston, one which leaves them 23rd in the Championship table.

It was their sixth loss in succession and sees the end of a tenure which began late last season.

Redknapp came in to save the Blues from relegation and achieved that goal with two wins in three matches, before signing a one-year deal to stay at the club.

Despite signing 14 players during the summer transfer window, Birmingham have managed just one win from six games this time around.

Former Blues midfielder Carsley has been appointed as caretaker-manager

"Maybe not this year but over the next two years I would have got promotion," a disappointed Redknapp told the Birmingham Mail.

"I had to do well this year but I would have stayed because I loved it there, absolutely loved my time there.

"I am not an idiot, I am not a silly person who goes around saying things, I think I have been around long enough."

Also on Saturday, Chesterfield dismissed Gary Caldwell and Port Vale parted company with Michael Brown.

No fewer than seven members of Fletcher's squad left on temporary transfers during the window, while Harry Cornick (Luton) and Jordan Green (Yeovil) secured permanent moves.

Sam Surridge and Matt Worthington went to Yeovil, Joe Quigley joined Newport County, Ben Whitfield headed to Port Vale and Alex Dobre linked up with Bury.

Sam Matthews returned to National League Eastleigh, while Ollie Harfield joined Poole Town, with Fletcher among the crowd at Dolphins' National South clash with Hemel Hempstead last night.

Fletcher told the Daily Echo: "From our point of view, the lads are at a stage of their career where they need that next test and bit of development.

"We were really lucky to be able to so many of them to league clubs which was great.

"They get a taste of proper men's football and trying to win three points on a Saturday. They can't always get that experience when they stay with the under-21s so it is vital for them going forward.

"We are looking forward to see how they get on."
