That's according to Guardiola's former No.2 Domenec Torrent - now in charge at New York City FC - who believes that the manager's attitude will make it possible for City to defy even greater odds.

"You know how difficult it is to win two in a row, so people may say it's almost impossible to win the next Premier League," he told The Sun.

"But if it's possible for one person to keep that energy, rhythm and focus and keep working in the same way, then it's Pep.

"Remember in Barcelona he was able to keep the focus in every single game and he kept on winning.

"It doesn't matter for him if he is playing Championship or playing Liverpool in a top of the league game. For Pep, it's the same. Pep conveys all the time to the players how important it is in every single game like they are playing Barcelona, Real Madrid or Liverpool in the Champions League."

Rooney has been nicking Pep Guardiola's secrets as he prepares to become a boss.

Ex-Manchester United skipper Roo, 33, picked the brains of Pep's former Manchester City No2 and current New York City chief Torrent.

Torrent said: I'm sure Wayne will become a good coach because the last conversations I've had with him were about that."

Rooney, who now plays for DC United, took the chance to quiz Torrent when they played in the Open Cup this month.

The United legend clearly admires the work which has been done by the Spaniards at City.

Torrent, who worked with Guardiola for 11 years, said: He's interested in becoming a coach and he can be a top coach in the Premier League.

If he can, it's good news because he's a legend in the Premier League and football around the world.

It's important these players stay in the game.

I love this guy, I'm a supporter of Manchester City and he's United but for me he's a good guy."

The striker, who spent six-and-a-half seasons playing for the Reds, will become a free agent when his contract expires at the end of the month.

Following this, Sturridge has been linked with a host of clubs including Aston Villa, Leicester City, Celtic and Rangers as well as some MLS clubs, says the Liverpool Echo.

And with the 29-year-old currently holidaying in America, the odds on a move to the states have been significantly slashed.

This follows the forward's latest Instagram post in which he shared a video from a New York City skyscraper with the caption: "NYC meeting vibes."

The comments immediately sparked rumours linking Sturridg with New York Red Bulls and New York City FC.

The Sun says DC United want to take Wales captain Ashley Williams to the United States.

The Eastern Conference leaders - and MLS rivals New York City - have joined the chase to capture the Everton defender.

Williams, 34, is out of contract this summer and has been on loan at Stoke but will leave Goodison Park when his current deal expires.

As well as the USA duo, relegated Premier League outfit Huddersfield and Championship play-off contenders Aston Villa have also declared an interest.

The highly rated Venezuelan had spent the previous two years at New York City FC where he earned many fans with his tough tackling and dogged determination.

Herrera played 35 times in the Big Apple, scoring one goal, and he certainly made an impression with his performances which have caught the eye of several European clubs.

However, City see potential in the 21-year old and have decided to keep him on their books and loan him to the La Liga club instead, after he spent the last month training at City.

Herrera has spent the last two seasons on loan at New York City, and now a local journalist in Huesca says he is in the city ahead of another loan move.

The move would mean a first taste of Primera Division football for Herrera.

The Venezuela international has been on City's books since 2017.

The club announced on Tuesday that Villa, who is Spain's all-time record goalscorer, will officially leave when his contract expires on 31 December having spent four seasons with the club he joined from from Atletico Madrid in 2014.

A club statement read: "Bringing the curtain down on an incredible four years with New York City Football Club, David Villa will leave NYCFC at the end of his contract on December 31, 2018."

Villa won two titles and the Champions League with Barcelona, before leaving to join Atletico and playing a leading role in their improbable La Liga success and run to the Champions League final.

"I can only say thank you, thank you to everybody," he told New York's website. "First, to City Football Group that gave me the opportunity to come here.

"To NYCFC and MLS for accepting me. To everybody at the club who helped me day by day.

"Thank you to the people in the offices, the people working with the team and the coaches and staff.

"Thank you to my teammates -- without them it would have been impossible to be successful. Thank you to the people working in the media that always gave me the respect and the love."

An announcement should be made by the end of the year, with the club in question believed to be in Chengdu, says the Daily Mail.

City already own Australia's Melbourne City and Club Atletico Torque in Uruguay. They part-own New York City FC, La Liga's Girona and Yokohama F Marinos in Japan.

The Premier League champions have been criticised for moving players between clubs under the City Football Group umbrella.

Club sources stress, however, that City are focused on building their brand and "expanding the development of grassroots football" across the world.

Rooney scored twice as DC United confirmed their place in the MLS post-season playoffs with a 3-1 win over New York City FC.

The former Manchester United and Everton forward has been the catalyst behind DC's remarkable upturn in form which has taken them from bottom of the Eastern Conference into a playoff spot.

Rooney opened the scoring after eight minutes at Audi Field on Sunday, with Luciano Acosta adding a second midway through the first half.

England's all-time record goalscorer then grabbed his second from the penalty spot in the 74th minute to put his side 3-0 up, with NYCFC pulling a consolation goal back through the former Barcelona and Spain forward David Villa.

Soriano insists the partnership programme is working to the benefit of City.

He explained: "In August 2017, a sixth team, Girona FC, became a City Football Group, and in their first La Liga season they finished in an impressive tenth place with a squad featuring several Manchester City loan players.

"In Australia, 19-year-old Daniel Arzani, the youngest player to feature in the 2018 World Cup, was sold by Melbourne City to Manchester City before being loaned to Celtic, a pathway forged a year earlier by Aaron Mooy who has gone on to achieve fantastic success in the Premier League at Huddersfield Town.

"Domnec Torrent transferred from Manchester City to New York City to take the role of Head Coach left vacant by Patrick Vieira, to whom we are grateful for his contributions both as a Manchester City player, and as a coach of Manchester City's youth and New York City's first team."
