Parlay Betting Guide for Smart Bets & Strategies: Maximize Your Odds in 2026

Parlay bets are one of the most popular ways to wager on sports. But what exactly are they, and how do they work? Come and join us today as we look into the exciting world of parlay bets.

Sometimes also referred to as accumulators, parlays let you bet on multiple markets as a single wager, giving you the unique experience of being able to create your own bet. They’re also a great way to increase your potential ROI, as we’re about to see. Read on to find out everything you need to know about parlay betting!

What’s the meaning of a parlay bet?

The term ‘parlay’ refers to a wager that is made up of different bets, called ‘legs’. In the UK and other countries, parlay bets are often called ‘accumulators’ or ‘accas’ for short.

Parlay bets combine these multiple legs into a single bet, meaning that you can create a wager that could see a very high return on investment (ROI). So, you could place $10 on a parlay and potentially turn it into thousands of dollars. But before you run off to your favorite bookmaker and start creating parlays, remember that each leg of your bet has to come in for you to win.

How do parlays work?

When you create a parlay bet, you effectively build the wager by betting on multiple events and predicting that they will all come in. Soccer is a popular sport for parlays, and one of the simplest accumulators you can make is making a lot of straightforward moneyline bets, where you predict the winners of various soccer matches.

As you create your parlay, the individual odds of each leg are combined together. Of course, this means a very good ROI, but it’s also a very risky type of bet, because if one leg fails, you lose the entire bet.

Parlay bet example

Using American odds, let’s look at a real-world example of a parlay bet. We’ll use the soccer World Cup, so you can see the type of parlay you can create with a big tournament.

  • Leg 1: France vs. Norway. Your bet: France to Win at odds of -200
  • Leg 2: Spain vs. Uruguay. Your bet: Total goals over 2.5 Goals at odds of +110
  • Leg 3: Netherlands vs. Japan. Your bet: Netherlands or Draw at odds of -400

Adding all of these odds together, you get roughly +294. Now, let’s say you stake $100 on this parlay. If you predict all legs correctly, you would win $394 ($294 in winnings, plus your $100 stake returned). However, if any of the legs fail, you lose your $100 stake.

Types of parlay bets

There are different types of parlay betting, as we’re about to see. As with prop bets, parlays offer a ton of variety across a wide range of sports, and the fact that you can effectively build your own bet is very appealing to a lot of punters.

Same game parlay (SGP)

As you can probably tell, a same game parlay is when you create multiple legs within the same match or event. This could be anything from a soccer or football match to a golf open or an MMA fight.

An example of a SGP is during a soccer match, where you could bet on a combo of events, including the overall score, both teams to score a goal, over/under total goals and a specific player to score a goal.

Teaser parlay

This is a special bet type that lets you adjust the point spread in your favor. Effectively, you’re ‘buying’ points from the sportsbook in order to give yourself better odds of winning overall. However, keep in mind that the sports betting site will recoup these ‘sold’ points through adjusting your potential winnings.

Player prop parlay

Prop bets are an exciting range of betting markets that let you predict a number of outcomes that aren’t dependent on the final score of a match. Player props are therefore any bet you can make on a specific player or athlete throughout a game.

Looking at soccer again, you could predict a player to score a specific number of goals, take a number of free kicks and/or corners, or even wager on whether or not they will receive any yellow or red cards.

Moneyline parlay

The simplest form of betting is the good old moneyline. This is where you predict the winner in an event, and is the go-to market for building parlays. All sportsbooks will offer a range of matches across different sports that you can place moneyline bets on. Alternatively, if you’d rather select which team will not win an event, try lay betting at a betting exchange.

As we’ve seen, there are lots of ways to build parlay bets, and this type of bet is suitable for most sports. That said, some types of parlays work better with specific sports. Here’s a quick overview of some parlay bets and the sports they’re best suited to.

Pros and cons of parlay bets

Parlay betting is perfect for seasoned punters who know the ins and outs of the sport they’re betting on, but it’s also a good choice for new punters who want to explore more wagering opportunities. Here are the pros and cons:

  • Lets you create your own wagers
  • High potential for greater ROI
  • Suitable for all sports
  • High-risk

Parlay betting – letting you create your own wagers!

Parlays are nothing new, but they remain one of the most popular betting techniques on the planet. The chance to build your own bet and potentially increase your returns makes parlays an exciting prospect for many bettors, and the variety on offer is almost unparalleled.

However, bear in mind that the reason why parlay bets often come with great odds is that they can be very risky. Building a wager that has 10 legs, for example, is setting yourself up for quite a mission! Remember, for a parlay to pay out, all legs must be successful, with no exceptions. So keep that in mind before setting off on your parlay journey.

The great thing about parlay betting is that it can be applied to all sports, and the best online sports betting sites will offer you a wide range of markets to build your parlay with. Here at Tribal Football, we only work with the very best in the business, so check the banners on this page to find a great online sportsbook in your area that offers the chance for parlay betting.

🤔 What is a parlay bet?

Parlay betting is when you combine two or more bets into one wager. Also known as accumulators in some parts of the world, your wager is made up of ‘legs’, and each one has to be correct for your parlay to win. This means you can create bets with higher odds and a potentially better ROI, but these bets also come with a high risk factor.

🏈 What’s the best sport for parlay betting?

The good news is that parlay betting can be applied to pretty much any sport. That said, sports with lots of players and teams work best, as there are more betting markets with which to create your parlay. Soccer, football, baseball and basketball are all very popular sports for parlay betting.

🤑 Can I get a bonus to use on parlay betting?

Usually, yes! A lot of online sports betting sites will offer you a bonus that you can use to make bets, including parlays. The availability will depend on the site and its individual T&Cs, as well as where you reside. Check the banners on this page to find a sportsbook in your area.
