Everton name Steinsson as new European chief scout

Everton have named Gretar Steinsson as their new European chief scout.

Steinsson moves from Fleetwood Town, where he was technical director.

Steinsson played 126 matches in the English top flight during four-and-a-half years with Bolton Wanderers.

A former international colleague of Gylfi Sigurdsson and capped 46 times by Iceland, he was signed by Brands as a player at AZ Alkmaar in 2005 and the pair were together at the Dutch club for two-and-a-half successful years before Steinsson left for Bolton.

Following his playing career Steinsson studied for a post-graduate degree in football management at the Johan Cruyff Institute in Holland.

He previously spent time back with AZ Alkmaar in a football operations capacity.
