Chelsea captain Gallagher 'buzzing' after Cup win: Important to celebrate like that

Chelsea captain Conor Gallagher sung the praises of teammates after their Carabao Cup shootout win against Newcastle.

A late equaliser from Blues winger Mykhaylo Mudryk earned a 1-1 draw and took the quarterfinal to penalties, which the hosts duly won.

Gallagher later said: "I'm buzzing. That was a really good performance. We were battling hard to find a goal and thankfully it came right at the end through Misha's goal and then we were confident we were going to win the penalty shoot-out.

"I felt we deserved to win the game and obviously everyone is happy. We just had to keep going which we did.

"We had a lot of the ball, a lot of possession and we just had to keep creating the chances which we did and eventually we got one in. It was really good for us to stay focused and keep going. It was frustrating at times but we got what we deserved in the end.

"I loved the scenes at full-time. There haven't been enough of those moments this season and last season, so hopefully there will be many more."

On a shootout, the midfielder also stated: "I think we felt confident.

"We were playing well in the game and everyone was confident on the ball. We fought right until the end to get the goal and everyone was confident taking their penalties coming from that performance."

Gallagher added: "This will be great for the confidence. It's definitely the best feeling we've had this season so everyone is really happy and excited to go into the next round. Of course, we are going to do everything we can to go through to the final now."
