Zola informs Chelsea he wants stay

Gianfranco Zola could stay with Chelsea next season.

Zola worked as a first-team coach last season under Maurizio Sarri - but was hired by the club and not by the Italian, who has left to take over at Juventus.

Zola's one-year contract expires on June 30, but whoever takes over from Sarri will have the chance to keep him on their staff and extend his deal, says the Daily Express.

The 52-year-old could be someone Frank Lampard, who has only had one years managerial experience in the Championship with Derby, might want to keep on as a wise old head alongside him on the bench.

Zola had told the club he does not want to stay on in an ambassadorial role – but would be prepared to keep working within the coaching set up.
