Zidane insists Real Madrid deserved winners at Real Betis

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane insists they were deserved winners at Real Betis.

Zidane believes Real Madrid were rightly awarded a penalty in the closing stages of their win over Real Betis.

Referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea pointed to the spot when Marc Bartra was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box.

"There's a referee and they reviewed it," Zidane said at full time. "I think what happened is fair.

"[The referee] is the one in charge.

"I never get involved with referees and I'm not going to today.

"The most important thing is the match we played. We gave everything.

"It was a tough game against a team that had won two games.

"We're happy, satisfied with the job done. We suffered and got the three points."

Thibaut Courtois played a key role in helping Los Blancos stay in the game throughout.

"He was [decisive], like in many matches recently," Zidane added.

"Real Sociedad also had a clear chance [last weekend] and he saved us.

"Today, it happened again.

"We know what he can do and I also like what he does with the ball, playing out from the back.

"I'm happy with his game and how things went for the team."
