Zamparini happy for ex-Palermo boss Gattuso over AC Milan chance

Former Palermo owner Maurizio Zamparini has wished Rino Gattuso all the best for his chance with AC Milan.

Zamparini hired and fired Gattuso during his time in charge of Palermo.

“He was early on in his experience as a Coach," Zamparini explained of Gattuso's time in Sicily.

“I chose him because of his great temperament and basically the fact his name is Gattuso.

“His surname says a lot, it's synonymous with a great temperament, and I don't mean that in a disparaging way.

“He didn't have high-level experience, but I hoped that all his grit would help him overcome what he lacked even in this case.

“We were in Serie B, we need a young Coach to start a new cycle. He had just finished his career as a player and then he was Sion Coach.

“A friend suggested him to us, we were following [Kyle] Lafferty and then he came along with Rino. In reality we took him due to circumstance.

“If he really is more than what he was on the pitch then he'll prove it, and I sincerely hope he does it with Milan.

“Now he's been called to a task which isn't easy, and all of you [Milan fans] have to support him. Serie A is another level and, I repeat, Gattuso was a great player but he doesn't have much experience.

“I love him and I wish him the best, what more can I say?

“I hope what he's done so far will be enough for him. [Antonio] Conte had a heavy second name and then he became Conte the great Coach who we know now.

“Of course he went though Arezzo, Bari, Atalanta and Siena before he arrived at Juve.

“I hope Rino can do the same and repeat Conte's career. I'm not saying that in a trivial manner, quite the opposite."
