Reading are close to confirming a deal for TP Mazembe defender Stopilla Sunzu.

Sunzu has just rejoined the Zambia squad in South Africa after spending four days with the Royals and a £3million, three-year deal with his Congolese club TP Mazembe could be completed after the African Nations Cup.

Zambia's French coach Herve Renard said: "Sunzu is not far from being the best centre-back in Africa, along with Marseille's Nicolas N'Koulou of Cameroon.

"He is going to be a great player and some clubs will maybe regret having overlooked him.

"European clubs have been looking more closely at our players. Emmanuel Mayuka joined Southampton last year and Sunzu is about to join Reading. There will be others."
