Wilfried Zaha saw red as Crystal Palace drew 1-1 with Southampton on Wednesday night.
James Ward-Prowse scored his third goal in as many Premier League games to earn Southampton a share of the points against fellow strugglers Crystal Palace, who had Zaha sent off.
Ward-Prowse slotted home Matt Targett's low cross from close range to deny Palace, who had looked good value for a win that would have moved them six points clear of the relegation zone.
Zaha's first goal since September had given the visitors a deserved lead when he rifled a low shot past Alex McCarthy four minutes before the interval.
The evening ended on a sour note for the 26-year-old, however, as he was shown a second yellow card for sarcastically applauding referee Andre Marriner, moments after picking up his first booking after tangling with Ward-Prowse.
