Zabaleta intent on achieving Champions League success with Man City

Manchester City full-back Paulo Zabaleta is determined to taste European success with the club.

City have failed to progress beyond the Round of 16 of the Champions League in their three previous attempts.

The Argentine defender intends to buck that trend this season when City face Dynamo Kiev in the initial knockout phase of Europe's elite club competition in the first leg on Wednesday.

He said: "This is one of the competitions where we have gone out in the last two years in the last 16, with two defeats to Barcelona. Now is another chance to make a step forward.

"We know this club is making a lot of effort to bring in top players. So we want to have success in the Champions League. We are 100 per cent focused on this. This is a big chance for us to go through to the next round.

"Since we have been playing in this competition we have been playing against the best teams in Europe. Over the last four years we have been learning a lot about the way you have to play in those games.

"In the last two years we have gone out in this stage because we played against the best team in the world, but we still think we can do well and progress."
